About the Facility

ABOUT THE VULCAN MATERIALS COMPANY MISSION GORGE FACILITY

Mission Gorge operates under a Conditional Use Permit with the City of San Diego and is subject to local, state, and federal regulation, including San Diego Air Pollution Control District (SDAPCD) rules and California's Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA). We maintain strict adherence to permitting requirements. We built this website with you in mind, and to communicate our ongoing commitments to neighbors and the community. We welcome questions and feedback.

WHAT WE PRODUCE

For decades, this facility has supplied to the heart of San Diego County locally produced sand, stone, gravel, asphalt, and ready-mix concrete. Locally sourced materials mean shorter truck trips, lower transportation emissions, and a reliable supply for the region's essential infrastructure.

RECYCLED MATERIALS:
A CALIFORNIA COMMITMENT

California’s recycled-material requirements are state law and reflect environmental policy goals designed to divert debris from landfills and conserve landfill space. Recycled materials reduce greenhouse gases, free up landfill space, and reduce raw material consumption.

At our Mission George facility we recycle asphalt and concrete from local demolition projects.  In 2024, Vulcan recycled 2.1 millions of asphalt pavement and 1.7 million tons of other materials across the United States.

ABOUT VULCAN MATERIALS COMPANY

NEW TO THE VULCAN MATERIALS COMPANY FAMILY

In 2024, Vulcan welcomed the Mission Gorge facility through the acquisition of Superior Ready Mix.  Though we sold the ready mix operations, we are still well positioned to serve the aggregate needs of customers across San Diego County.  The ready mix operations at Mission Gorge are now owned and operated by CalPortland.
