Vulcan Materials Company has owned and operated the Mission Gorge facility since 2024, when it joined the Vulcan family through the acquisition of Superior Ready Mix. The facility has supplied construction materials to San Diego for nearly 100 years.

As a hard-rock operation, we occasionally use controlled blasting to break rock into manageable sizes, permitted only during designated daytime hours. Blasting follows industry standards recognized by Caltrans and former U.S. Bureau of Mines research, and we will not blast within 500 feet of existing homes in Tierrasanta or Allied Gardens. Weekday operations run through 10:00 p.m. PT. Typical production activity happens during daylight hours, with occasional night shipments and maintenance as needed.

Dust management runs continuously during operating hours, including water sprays at conveyor transfer points with regular inspections, truck-watered stockpiles, treatments on unpaved and paved high-traffic areas, a wheel wash preventing track-out onto public roads, and a dedicated street sweeper covering the quarry entrance to 7198 Mission Gorge Road three times daily. All measures are logged in writing.

We've converted back-up alarms to broadband "quacker" alarms, which are effective for safety while significantly less piercing at a distance than traditional beeping alarms. We maintain full compliance with local noise ordinances.

Our current permit runs through 2033.

The facility operates under a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) with the City of San Diego.
